In the past couple of weeks, we’ve been getting this question over and over: “what cities and/or counties are open to I-502?” As a result, we’ve decided to keep up a running blog post listing those cities and/or counties that have I-502 ordinances or bans in place to keep you all informed. We’ll be updating this blog post as regularly as we can and as new ordinances and/or bans develop.
Here’s our current list:
Passed a six to twelve month moratorium on all I-502 operations (Ordinance No. 2908).
Wants to undertake discussions about regulating I-502 (per one enthusiastic city manager).
Looks to establish zoning ordinance for I-502 operations.
While the county hasn’t taken any official steps to regulate for I-502, it’s in “wait and watch” mode on any future regulation.
City Council imposed a six-month moratorium on new businesses that would produce or sell cannabis.
City discusses implementing its own I-502 regulations.
County contemplates enacting I-502 moratorium.
Looking to pass temporary moratorium on September 3, 2013, until Liquor Control Board finalizes rules
Has made clear in the media that they will not tolerate any I-502 operation within city limits as long as cannabis is still a Schedule I controlled substance.
Enacted marijuana zoning ordinance on October 17, 2013.
City council voted on August 6, 2013, to keep with current city zones and comply with the rules under Initiative-502. Here’s an article on the council’s vote and here’s the city’s web page showing a map where I-502 operations are allowed.
Similar to Kent, has publicly stated that I-502 operations are not welcome as long as cannabis is still a Federal crime (ultimately claiming that they don’t want to put JBLM troops at risk for criminal activity).
